raining memories
Sitting by the window when it rains, with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee, sometimes with or without a book in your hand is a classic scene everybody talks about. I have always wanted to do that. So step 1 wait for the rainy season. Check. Step 2 make what looks like a hot chocolate or coffee. check. Step 3 drag the comfy looking chair by the window. nope. Instead sit on the bed which is close enough to the window. Check. Now what ? Sigh and think about "life"..hmmmm well i can still do that without the coffee or the rain. So i try to imagine or compare the rainy situations i have been in. I spent most of my childhood in Saudi Arabia. So when it does rain there in the once of bluest of moons, its like its raining gold. The feeling of water falling on you and around you to simmer down the scorching heat, oh hell yeah . Paradise. Actually a paradise that lasts less than a week. So it is still precious. Come summer holidays and we head to India for 2-3 months of nothing but open fields, family, games, traditional food and the works. And when the petrichor hits you, you shout happily "Its raining , YEAH!" and your cousins go with the weirdest look they give you during their lifetime, "Haven't you seen rain before?" , Well i have never felt it in the open. There is no way me being a girl could run outside of my house and play in the rain in a country like Saudi. So in India it means a lot when you play cricket in the rain with the bat carved out coconut branches and the 2 Rs rubber ball from local shop. That was the family game. Now everybody ig grown up and living their separate lives with too little time to enjoy. The other memory is when it used to pour down during my college years especially during our exams which is like a custom . When you have such a weather , how can you study thermodynamics or mass transfer operations? Our college had an amazing backdrop of mountains and lush trees , so we would take a break and have masala tea from our hostel canteen and enjoy it while we can. With work , you have very little time to notice and enjoy the small yet fascinating parts of life. People always said Bangalore had the most pleasant climate throughout. But the year i joined, climate took a turn towards spending more than enough time with heat and rising temperatures. So it was amazing when it rained while me and my work buddies were walking back from the office. There were puddles and streams of rain water on the sides which obviously hosted the party for unhygienic conditions. But we didn't care. We, 20 something IT professionals wanted our childhood back and we did . Even though it meant we were dripping wet when we got home. And now I am here far away from all that and wondering if i will ever get to do that again. Yes but maybe in a different way with the different place and different friends. But the rain doesn't wash all those times had. And something that always stuck by me when it rains, my mom saying, 'Don't go out in the rain, you will catch a cold'. But you know that cold will be worth it.
